Our Purple City

Accessibility & Inclusion

On Purple Tuesday in Milton Keynes City Centre, we united local charities and organisations dedicated to improving accessibility and enhancing the customer experience for all.  It doesn't stop there - we want Milton Keynes to be a welcoming, accessible and inclusive place for everyone.

All BID levy payers can now access Purple 365 Training for free. This is a program designed to help businesses and organisations become more inclusive and accessible, particularly for individuals with disabilities.

Through workshops, e-learning modules, and consultancy, Purple 365 Training covers areas such as:

  • Understanding the needs of customers and employees with disabilities.

  • Practical steps to make services, environments, and communication more accessible.

  • Compliance with legal standards like the Equality Act in the UK.

  • Building confidence in interacting with people with disabilities.

AccessAble Survey

We have partnered with AccessAble to commission a City Centre-wide accessibility survey. The findings will inform the creation of detailed Access Guides for key areas within Milton Keynes City Centre: Xscape, The Hub, Station Square, centre:mk, and Midsummer Place.

They will highlight essential accessibility features like Changing Places toilets, accessible parking, and pedestrian-friendly crossings.

The guides will also be integrated into the MyMK.CC website and updated annually, empowering residents and visitors with reliable, in-depth information on navigating the City according to their unique accessibility needs.

MK Umbrella Project

We are part of the Milton Keynes Umbrella Project, which is set to brighten Midsummer Place in March 2025 with its stunning canopy of colourful umbrellas, but it needs the support of local businesses to make it happen.

The installation aims to spark conversations and foster greater understanding of neurodiversity, highlighting the strengths and unique perspectives of individuals with conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia.

Sponsorship offers businesses a unique opportunity to support this meaningful initiative while benefiting from brand visibility through on-site signage, media coverage, and online promotion.
